Live transcription shows speech-to-text of spoken content during a Teams meeting in near real time. The text appears alongside the meeting video, including the speaker's name (unless they choose to hide it) and a time stamp. Post meeting, a transcription of the entire meeting can be downloaded.
This is only available on a Business Standard license and above.
It's only available for:
- Scheduled meetings (not available in Meet Now meetings or channel meetings)
- On the installed desktop version of Teams.
To turn it on, select the 3 dots in a meeting and choose the Record & Transcribe > Start Transcription. The same approach can be taken to stop the transcription, but it will automatically stop when the meeting ends.
When the meeting is over, the transcript is immediately available in meeting event on the calendar. Participants can download it as either a .vtt or .docx file.
- Select Calendar on the left in Teams
- Open the meeting event and select the transcript.
- Above the transcript, select Download and then choose the file type you want.
Note, after the meeting, along with the transcript, any other available meeting-related items (attached docs, meeting notes, the recording) will also be available from the Details tab when you open the meeting event.
